2. 演習 Part A

Passage 4

Passage 4(メモ)

Questions 10-12 refer to the following memo.

                              INTERNAL MEMO

To:      All Sales Team Members

From:    Hannah Becker, Sales Manager

Date:    May 6

Re:      Updated Expense Reporting Policy

This memo summarizes the new expense reporting policy that will take effect

on June 1. The goal of this update is to reduce the time spent on monthly

expense reconciliation and to provide a clearer record of client-related

spending.

Key changes:

1. Expense reports must be submitted within five business days after each

client meeting, not at the end of the month as before.

2. Receipts for any single expense over fifteen dollars must be attached as

a clear photo or scan. Handwritten notes will no longer be accepted as

   stand-alone proof.

3. Meals shared with three or more clients should be marked as “Group Client

Meal” in the reporting tool. The full name and company of each client

must be entered in the notes field.

4. Mileage for personal-vehicle use will continue to be reimbursed at the

current rate. No change is being made to that section.

Please remember that incomplete reports will be returned for revision and

may delay reimbursement by up to two weeks.

If you have any questions about the new procedure, please reach out to me

directly or attend the short Q&A session on May 20 at 4:00 P.M. in the

sales training room.

Thank you for your cooperation as we transition to this new process.

Passage 5

Questions 13-15 refer to the following text-message chain.

[10:42 A.M.] Marcus Doyle

Hey Priya, quick one — the client just asked if we can move tomorrow’s

demo from 3 P.M. to 11 A.M. Is that doable on your end?

[10:43 A.M.] Priya Sharma

Hmm. I have the marketing review at 10:30, but it’s usually short. Let me

check with Sam whether we can wrap that one up by 10:55.

[10:43 A.M.] Marcus Doyle

That would help. The client’s flight got rescheduled, so afternoon won’t

work at all for them.

[10:45 A.M.] Priya Sharma

Got it. One concern — the latest version of the prototype hasn’t been

loaded onto the demo laptop yet. Tom was going to do it tonight.

[10:46 A.M.] Marcus Doyle

Right. If we go at 11, we’d need it done before 10. Can you ask Tom if

he can come in 30 minutes earlier?

[10:48 A.M.] Priya Sharma

I’ll message him now. Worst case, I can run the demo from my own laptop —

the build is on there too, just not as polished.

[10:49 A.M.] Marcus Doyle

Let’s keep that as plan B. Plan A is Tom + the demo laptop. I’ll confirm

the 11 A.M. slot with the client once you hear back from Sam and Tom.

[10:50 A.M.] Priya Sharma

Sounds good. Give me 15 minutes.

Q13

What is the main topic of the conversation? A. Selecting a new demo laptop B. Whether to move a scheduled client demo earlier C. Hiring a replacement for Tom D. Canceling the marketing review

Q14

According to the conversation, why is the client requesting an earlier time? A. The client wants to fly out earlier than planned. B. The client’s flight has been rescheduled. C. The client is unable to attend a 3 P.M. meeting. D. The client prefers morning meetings.

Q15

At 10:49 A.M., what does Marcus most likely mean when he writes, “Let’s keep that as plan B”? A. He wants to cancel the demo entirely. B. He prefers the original prototype version. C. He would rather use the demo laptop if possible. D. He thinks Priya should run the demo alone.

Q13

答え:B(Whether to move a scheduled client demo earlier)

Questions 19-21 refer to the following article.

                        LOCAL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

                — Greenline Books Marks Its Tenth Year —

                          By Hannah Whitlock

Greenline Books, the independent bookstore on Carver Avenue, will celebrate

its tenth anniversary next Saturday with a full day of community events.

What began in 2016 as a small reading corner inside a café has grown into

one of the busiest neighborhood bookstores in the Eastview district.

“When we opened, we honestly were not sure we would make it past the first

year,” said founder Léa Moreau in a recent interview. “Local readers have

carried us all the way here.”

Over the past decade, Greenline has gradually expanded its services. In

addition to selling new and used books, the store now hosts weekly author

talks, runs a youth reading club on Sunday mornings, and offers a small

exhibition space for local illustrators. Last year, the store partnered

with three nearby cafés to launch a “read-and-stay” program, in which

customers can borrow selected titles for the day while sitting in any

participating café.

Looking ahead, Moreau says the next step is to expand the children’s

section and open a second, smaller branch in the Westmill area. “We’re

still testing the timing, but we’d like to be open in Westmill within

two years,” she said.

The anniversary celebration will run from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. and will

include readings by three local authors, a children’s storytelling hour,

and a thank-you gift bag for the first one hundred customers.

[Email 1]

From:    Eleanor Park <eleanor.park@maplecreek-cafe.example>

To:      info@cresthill-events.example

Date:    Wednesday, July 8

Subject: Catering Inquiry — Staff Anniversary Event

Hello,

I am the operations manager at Maple Creek Café, a small specialty coffee

shop in the Cresthill area. We will be celebrating our fifth anniversary on

Saturday, August 22, and would like to ask whether Cresthill Events can

handle catering for an in-store gathering of approximately forty guests.

We would prefer light, finger-food style options that can be served on a

small table, since most guests will be standing. We would also like to

offer a non-alcoholic sparkling beverage if possible.

Could you let me know:

  1. Whether August 22 is available;

  2. The price per person for a basic finger-food package;

  3. Whether we can arrange a short tasting session before booking.

Thank you very much in advance.

Best regards,

Eleanor Park

From:    Daniel Rivers <d.rivers@cresthill-events.example>

To:      Eleanor Park <eleanor.park@maplecreek-cafe.example>

Date:    Thursday, July 9

Subject: RE: Catering Inquiry — Staff Anniversary Event

Dear Eleanor,

Thank you for thinking of Cresthill Events for your fifth anniversary.

Congratulations on reaching this milestone — we have heard great things

about Maple Creek Café from several of our regular clients.

To answer your questions in order:

  1. August 22 is currently available. We can hold the date for you for

     seven days without a deposit.

  2. Our basic finger-food package starts at twenty-eight dollars per

guest and includes eight bite-sized items per person. Sparkling

non-alcoholic options are included at no extra cost.

  3. Yes, we offer complimentary tasting sessions on Tuesday and

Thursday afternoons. Please pick whichever works best for you.

One thing to keep in mind: for groups of forty or more, we usually

recommend our medium package (thirty-six dollars per guest, ten items),

which includes two warm options. If standing guests will be on-site for

more than two hours, the warm items tend to be appreciated.

Please let me know how you would like to proceed. We’re glad to help

make the anniversary a memorable one.

Best regards,

Daniel Rivers

Senior Coordinator, Cresthill Events

Subject: Application — Saturday Instructor Position

Dear Northwind Craft Workshops,

I would like to apply for the Saturday Instructor position. I have been

working with watercolor for the past four years, both as a hobby and as

an occasional contributor to local exhibitions. Over the past year I have

also led three short watercolor sessions at our neighborhood community

center, mostly for adults and teenagers.

I am available every Saturday from October through March, and I can

commit beyond March as well if the schedule works for both sides. I have

no formal teaching certification, but I genuinely enjoy explaining

techniques in plain language and seeing beginners create something they

can be proud of.

A photo of one of my recent pieces is attached. I would be glad to come

by the studio for a short conversation at any time that works for you.

Thank you very much for considering my application.

Best regards,

Marcel Lin

Marcel Lin

  1. He has formal teaching certification.(正式な教員資格を持つ) B. He is most likely applying to teach watercolor.(おそらく水彩画を教える応募) C. He has previously worked at Northwind Craft Workshops.(過去に Northwind で勤務) D. He is unable to commit beyond three months.(3ヶ月超のコミット不可)

⑤他の選択肢の消去理由: A:本文「I have no formal teaching certification」と真逆 C:本文では「neighborhood community center」での経験のみ。Northwind 勤務歴はない D:本文「I can commit beyond March as well」と真逆

Subject: Question about Saturday workshops

Hello,

I just moved to the Crestwood area last month and saw the June workshop

schedule posted on the community board. Thank you for offering such a

useful lineup — I’d like to attend two of them.

The two workshops I’m most interested in are the one about managing my

monthly spending on June 13 in the morning, and the one about safely

using a smartphone, which I’d love my mother to attend with me that same

afternoon.

I have a few questions:

  1. Do I need to register both of us in advance for the morning workshop?

  2. My mother is not a member of the center yet. Is there a fee for her

     to attend either workshop?

  3. Is the morning workshop suitable for someone who has never made a

     personal budget before?

I appreciate your help and look forward to attending.

Best regards,

Olivia Rhodes
